final grayscale

there will be no grayscale two fifty six. quite simply it is not an economically sensible prospect for us. i apologize to those who have been very encouraging of these prospects.

furthermore due to other manufacturing difficulties surrounding the grayscale editions, we’re seriously considering discontinuing the sixty four and one twenty eight in grayscale form. we’re going to take time to re-evaluate the process before finalizing a decision, we’ll keep you posted.

we have less than twenty grayscale sixty four devices remaining here in stock, ready to ship. order here.

new redesigned walnut editions

it pains me to announce this without a photo, but the prototypes are not final and we know how photos spread on the internet. so a photo will hopefully be ready in a couple of weeks and we can’t wait to share!

but as for notable changes; the new grid and arc controllers are now substantially thinner, featuring redesigned mechanics, electronics and wooden enclosures. every aspect has undergone some degree of refinement. we are happy to report that the new arc encoders feature custom designed shaft and bushing components for very high tolerances, manufactured for us by a scientific instrumentation company here in the US. we’ve also removed the push-button per encoder in the arc. the grids now allow for 16-step brightness per-led.

but overall functionality of both devices is basically the same.

ordering begins june 8 for the new walnut grid edition. we expect to begin shipping two weeks later. arc ordering will follow shortly after, the date will be announced soon. we’ll have fifty of the following, all new walnut editions: one twenty eight, two fifty six, arc two, and arc four. all pricing remains the same.

other

we’re rapidly approaching the completion of a new monome.org which has been underway for a very long time. the new design has been steered largely by community input over the years.

we don’t have a scheduled release for kits, which have become a lower priority as we move forward on developing new designs.

we’re making very good progress on a new device in collaboration with our good friend ezra buchla. it’s a mix of dsp magic and monome openness. but that’s all we can say for now. shhhhh.

update: 128 all sold out. early shipping 64 sold, all new 64 orders will ship a month from now.

the first twenty units of each are built and will ship immediately next week. the remaining 60 units of grayscale 64 will ship in about a month, as we ran into a block of defective parts which needed to be re-ordered. we ship according to order receipt, so early orders will ship first.
