the primary features of monome devices are tactile and visual feedback. the decoupled design allows for clear response and intuitive play. when you push a key or turn an encoder the input data is sent to the computer for various forms of interpretation while the output data, light patterns for example, are controlled separately in response. all decision making is controlled by the chosen application running on the computer.
monome devices are interactive tools with a focus on minimalism. simplicity in design impose creative constraints that temper the endless reprogrammable possibilities. the ability to determine how input and output functions can present unlimited possibilities for interaction.
the monome grid is a field of backlit keypads in three configurations: 8×8, 16×8, and 16×16. the monome arc is a series of high-resolution encoders and high-density LED rings in two configurations: 2 and 4.

applications
mlr is live sample-cutting platform. sound clips are assigned to each row of the grid. the playback position of each sound is represented by the moving light across the row. pressing a key causes playback to cut to that position.
flin creates poly-rhythmic patterns with a rain-like visual correlate. configurable midi notes is output to an assignable software or hardware synth. pressing on a column changes the speed, with a two-touch gesture changing the duration of the note.
polygome is a performable pattern instrument and incredible arpeggiator. note gestures can be recorded and then played, transposed, and stored quickly all from the grid surface.
pages provides a deep, adaptable platform for versatile application routings: running several at once using virtual pages. one of its major strengths is various methods of communicating with ableton live.
electric dharma wheels turns the arc into a probabilistic FM synthesizer. turning encoders changes values represented by spinning rings.
